We are going back and catching up on all the DCU movies we have yet to review on the podcast. Starting off with the first of the modern era line of adult animated DC Comics flicks comes Superman Doomsday. The quick and simple retelling of the Death and Return of Superman comic run. It may be a bit of the light take, but very enjoyable from start to finish and also a great gateway film for anyone wanting to get into the Big Blue Boy Scout.

We are talking the lost 1998 DCU animated film of Gen 13 from the WildStorm comics crew of Jim Lee, Brondon Choi, and J. Scott Campbell with Disney doing the animation film production. Along with Kevin Altieri (of Batman Mask if the Phantasm) directing the movie. If that's still not enough, there's voice overs by Mark Hamill and Flea. The super group team of super teams now.
That in itself is already mind blowing when you think of Warner Bros with DC and Disney with Marvel today. To top it off, this is maybe the most ballsy product that Disney has ever attached its main logo too. From a first look, Gen 13 looks to fit the mold of the 90s superhero cartoons of Batman the Animated Series, Spider-Man, X-Men, and TMNT kind. But really this movie starts off with a hardcore "are you in or are you out" moment and has material that might not even appear in a modern DCU R Rated animation today. This Gen 13 movie falls in line more with Spawn, Hellboy, and Heavy Metal 2000 style of animations. So, this may be the real reason that the film never came to the USA and just a small release in Australia. Adult animation was mostly just a back of a magazine, partially hidden order style in 90s America.
But it's totally interesting and well worth the watch. Giving us some real appreciation for the creation of Gen 13 in movie form. Today on the show we are talking about the new Cowboy Bebop Live Action show on Netflix. Now the original Anime is always one of our all time favorite series and we have chatted about it on a few episodes in the past. So, we just wanted to go into this new adaptation with an open mind and see what happens. All in all, it's pretty decent, with just a handful of goofy changes and some just normal TV series issues overall. Well worth the watch and will be interesting to see what happens next round.

Talking the new DCU flick of Injustice. Based of the fighting game and comic book of similar name. But this take on the whole bad Superman story, that almost seems a bit over done by this point, is surprisingly fresh, action packed, and filled with some good ole twists and turns in the story choices. Making it a very high bar DCU animated film to indulge in. Filled to the brim with all kinds of Justice League characters to boot beyond just the standard members of Batman, Wonder Woman, Supes, and so on. What's not to love?

We are finishing off the Rebuild Series of the Evangelion movies with the 4th part. 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time to really throw a curveball of confusion at people with that title. But we have beyond a good time talking about the flick, having laughs, go in depth, and adding in some what ifs. Like a Harvey Keitel crossover. But this film really does wrap the series up nicely, even if it does open a few new questions.

Talking all about the Evangelion movie of 1.11 or 1.0, You Are (Not) Alone. Confusing title, great flick. The sorta new reboot, series of films in the Evangelion line, coming out in Japan in 2007 and USA in 2009. But we start off with the first of four and have a good ole time in this anime world. The great action, funny laughs, interesting story turns, and well defined roster of characters. It's a classic with a fresh coat of paint and all the bells n' whistles. Will Shinji and his dad ever get to play baseball in the backyard? Only one way to find out.

We are talking all about the latest DCU animated movie of Batman The Long Halloween Part 1. These films seem to be getting cranked out with it only being like a month since Justice Society WW2 coming out. And just about another month till Part 2 of TLH returns. So, at least we won't have to wait too long. But getting back to the flick, based on the classic Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale book about a Holiday Killer making a mark on the crime families of Gotham. Leading into a culture clash of the old school mobsters and the new super villains moving in.
This is one of those great gateway comics for anyone looking to start getting deeper into the Batman universe. The movie holds up well to the book too, though since it's part 1 it's more of the setup piece. But great nonetheless. With it's own twists, turns, and style to separate it from the original. We will be looking forward to who the Holiday Killer ends up being in the next installment.

We are talking all about the brand new DCU animated feature of Justice Society World War 2 on the podcast. This film is fantastic and may be top 10 material of all the DCU pictures released. Multiple twists and turns that took us by surprise, action packed, a fantastic roster of characters, and brings back the good ole Superman quote of "Truth, Justice and the American Way!"
Beyond just the amazing war film, that shifts gears at each new act keeping the whole pace fresh and alive. We also get another amazing DCU short of Kamandi - The Last Boy on Earth. Beyond awesome and just adds to the value of owning the physical copy of the movie. And to top it all off we get the sneak peak at the next film, Batman The Long Halloween Part 1. One of those comic book stories that we have been looking forward to seeing in animated form since the early days of these DCU pictures.

We are going back to 90s anime and talking all about the ole Samurai Shodown Motion Picture OVA. A game series that we have played since it first came out on Neo Geo arcades but are still not as familiar with as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive. So, maybe this movie will fill in the story blanks. Which it's a fun action packed, Seven Samurai styled flick but really could use about an extra 20 minutes or so more to add in details to the other characters. Though we still had a good time, which leads to other tangents of the fighting game movie adaptation roster of films.
